Business Management Qualifications

Education
Most business management professional hold a minimum of a bachelors degree. Degrees in business management or administration can create a solid foundation for a business management career. However, a variety of degree paths can lead to a management position depending on the industry. Degrees in economics, marketing, human resources, communications, or mathematics could all potentially be good starting points. Many larger companies require more education, searching for candidates with an advanced degree, such as an MBA.

Abilities
A well qualified business manager will possess strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills. Communication skills are important in interacting with people at all levels of the organization, whether speaking technically with engineers or written reports to the CEO. Organizational skills are necessary to keep tasks and projects on schedule and productive. Managers are often the ones to spearhead major projects and lead meetings when necessary. Management is often about problem solving, so analytical skills are critical. Business managers must be able to analyze a problem and either provide potential solutions or delegate responsibilities to those who can find a solution.

Experience
Often, the most important qualification in becoming a business manager is experience. You may find it difficult to enter a business management career directly out of college. Utilize internships whenever possible to gain valuable experience while still working on your degree.
