Call Center Qualifications
Education A high school diploma or equivalent is the base qualification for any call center job. Some companies prefer candidates who have completed some college.
Abilities A polite and clear speaking manner is the most important skill for a call center applicant to possess. Qualified candidates speak with proper grammar and little accent. It is vital that call center employees master a pleasant manner in communicating with people. Computer aptitude and some word processing skills are very beneficial, as are solid math and writing skills. Bilingual candidates are always in demand. Specific training or licensure may be required for certain fields such as IT support or medical call centers.
Experience Most call centers prefer potential employees to have had some customer service experience. While previous call center experience is a definite bonus, experience in retail, restaurant service, or any other customer related field will certainly help demonstrate your qualifications. Sales experience or a basic familiarity with the company you will be representing may be required in certain industries.
