Education
In order to become an investment banker you must earn a masters in business administration (MBA). Your coursework should include classes in finance, management, compliance, research, equity, securities, trading, and risk management. Your bachelors degree can make a difference as well. Applicants with a background in business, economics, finance, computer science, mathematics, and physics are all highly sought after by investment banks.

Abilities
Investment banking qualifications include a combination of strong analytical and interpersonal skills. You will need to be able to analyze accounting numbers and have a good grasp of mathematical modeling. Your success will also depend on your ability to communicate with clients and get deals done. Investment bankers are not just analysts, they are also sales people. Above all else, to make it as an investment banker you must be dedicated. It can take long hours and a many years to succeed in this highly competitive career.

Experience
Most investment bankers begin their career as an entry-level analyst before pursuing an MBA.
